Bournemouth has plenty to offer the more energetic visitor. This includes surfing, which has been popular for over 40 years. The waves can be ridden all along the bay and the sandy bottom and lack of dangerous currents make it especially safe. Body boarding is one of the most popular forms of surfing in Bournemouth as it is easy to learn and cheap! There are plans to build an artificial reef between Boscombe and Southbourne making a lagoon for safe swimming, snorkelling and of course "better surfing". One holidaymaker noticed the surfers one January and mistook them for a group of seals! For those keen on tennis there are a number of public courts such as Central Gardens or Shelley Park as well as the clubs West Hants or East Dorset or Southbourne. There is no shortage of golf courses and driving ranges from beginner level upwards. The public course at Meyrick park is set in beautiful woodlands and you can’t beat the view over Poole harbour at Studland Golf course.

For those who prefer bowls Bournemouth has a number of outside greens and a large indoor bowls centre at Kings Park.Kings Park is also the setting for the athletics track and the home ground of AFC Bournemouth. Come and have a moan and groan and cheer at the Cherries playing alongside the friendly supporters in their new 12,000 seater stadium. At Matchams Raceway you will find Quad bikes, Paintball, and banger racing. Plus an outside karting track which hosts several regional championships. There is an indoor karting track at Bournemouth airport) which includes an unusual (over and then under) bridge in the track layout.
The gentle pace is continued with the summer timetable of cricket at Dean Park
The BMX trials take place in Southbourne, just behind Southbourne Tennis club

During the summer months various water sports are available from the ever-popular banana boat ride to Para-ascending or the more gentle kayaking. For the jet skiers, water skiers and wind surfers Poole Harbour is ideal and the boat enthusiast can sail from Poole to Christchurch or over to the nearby Isle Of Wight.

The Piers are open to fishermen or boats can be hired for those who wish to go further out. In the summer it is often possible to watch Dolphins playing in the Bay.

The beautiful sandy beach at Bournemouth plays host to many sporting activities from the organised games for the children to the National Volleyball championship or putting young lifeguards through their paces. Or course you can do what the majority of people do and sunbathe or swim in the lovely clean water!

The beach area is also used for charity events such as the pier to pier swim or runs. It is also a vital part of the various marathons that take place annually. For those hardy swimmers there is the Christmas Day swim! There is never a shortage of volunteers!

Swimming pools are at the Littledown Centre or Stokewood Pool.

Fitness clubs and gyms are to be found in all areas of town many of them offering their facilities to visitors.

Other indoor sports include the snooker and pool halls. There is also a  bowling alley  in Branksome.

For those who prefer walking not only is there the wonderful 7 miles of sandy beach but there is 25 miles of magnificent World Heritage coastline from Studland down to Chesil beach. The Dorset coastline has some of the most unspoilt and beautiful cliff walks in Britain.

There are also wonderful old Dorset villages or the nearby New Forest  to explore on foot or by bike. The New Forest is home to numerous stables where you can enjoy a trek through the heathlands and woods.

Top quality coaches offer technical advice and experience to these young potential stars of tomorrow.

For those who require a more sedate pace of the tennis , the club offers “club evenings” where any member can turn up play and enjoy "a sociable game.

Bournemouth Football Club http://www.afcb.co.uk
                   Stadium at 17/7/2001
The football ground for AFC Bournemouth was in a dire state. The ground was beyond updating. Originally built in 1910, Dean Court has had many additions to it.The proposed development intends to completely rebuild the stadium after rotating the ground 90o to the east.
The redevelopment includes:
Ø      Complete rebuild of the stadium area in a high tech style whilst fitting in with the landscape of Kings Park.
Ø      Large amounts of glazing on the end elevations of the stands.
Ø      Built with highly durable, low maintenance materials to keep costs down.
Ø      A flat plane roof with large glazing for weather protection/reduction in visual impact.
Ø      Cladding the second floor in glass & metallic silver flat-panels.
Ø      Rendering the first floor office in white materials.
By choosing this style the club aims to have a modern, visually pleasant, stadium of the future. Fitting in with the clean, crisp area that is Kings Park.

Proposed Stadium for late 2001 - 2002

The stadium is now built so if you plan to come to Bournemouth why not visit the ground and watch a match?
