JAR PPL-H or FAA PPL-H?
  • We are approved to train for both.
For many pilots, the FAA qualification has advantages:
    • It takes 5 hours less to achieve your licence
    • There are no annual proficiency checks.
    • And you can fly any helicopter of less than 12,500lb gross weight.
On the other hand, the JAR CAA qualification requires that you have an annual check each year, and to convert say from the Schweizer to a Jet Ranger needs five hours instruction. If your aim is simply to fly for fun, then the FAA licence may be all you require. But if your goal is to gain a commercial licence, then the JAR route is best.
General medical requirements are: Pass an examination with a CAA approved doctor—to Class 2 for PPL-H, which ensures you are are averagely healthy, and includes checks for eyesight, blood pressure and so forth.Yes, you can wear glasses, but if you are colour blind, then you will not be able to fly at night.
