Bournemouth piers Cars are allowed between the piers but in July and August there is a fee. Disabled groups can arrange in advance to drop off and pick up in advance with the beach office. (Tel 01202 451781) The land trains run from Alum Chine to Bournemouth Pier and Bournemouth Pier to Boscombe daily from April to September (weekends only weather permitting in the winter). People in wheelchairs travel free. |
Folding chairs can be
carried on all trains but “Max 1” and “SU 2” can carry passengers in their
wheelchairs. |

Camera Obscura
access is relatively easy and direct from Bournemouth Square. Which includes a
cobblestone mosaic, alongside the Obscura Cafe the camera obscura
located on the first floor. The obscura chamber is a large circular room with
a 1.8m diameter circular table in the centre, onto which the image is
projected. The table is white, and the height is adjustable so the image can
be focused. |

Theatres: There are a limited number of spaces for wheelchairs for safety reasons. It is advisable to inform the theatre if you require wheelchair space to avoid delays on the night. Most of the venues have a hearing induction loop although some shows make it difficult to operate the system so it is advisable to check with the theatre before booking. The Pavilion Theatre has 8 disabled parking spaces and a ramp at the entrance. |

accessible toilet in the foyer and another near the ballroom (Access via a
lift where staff will offer assistance.) Pier Theatre has access via a ramp
at the side of the building. The theatre is on one level and a new
accessible toilet is adjacent to the theatre. BIC has access to all areas apart from the balconies in the Windsor and Tregonwell Hall.There are toilets on every floor and the lift is found behind the Reception desk. The usher will offer assistance or advice if required |

tourism. The pier is used as a symbol of identity for the town and hosts a
range of events from races, carnivals, fairs, concerts to firework displays.
Yet its heritage has been unexplored and its prominent place within the
community not celebrated. The OUR PIER project brings to life the wealth of
memories from the past and captures the story of this amazing landmark.

Sensory Community Garden. The garden is located in Knyveton Gardens Keeble Rd and it will stimulate the 5 senses. There are plants to touch, smell, bright colours for the partially sighted and a pond with running water. A sensory sculpture is at the entrance and in the café there are Braille scripts with the garden’s history. There are wide paths, raised flower beds and high seats. There is an environmental area to attract birds, butterflies and bats. Monkey world. Located about 25 miles from Bournemouth Monkey World is home to the largest group of chimps outside of Africa. The monkeys live in spacious enclosures amongst natural woodlands. Waterfront Museum. Located in the High Street Poole the museum displays the history of Poole from Roman occupation to smugglers. Poole Museum has reopened after 20 months of major redevelopment involving £750,000 of Heritage Lottery Funding and local fundraising. June 1960 with the show "Carry on Laughing" starring Ted Rogers. In 1964, Thora Hird
starred in "The Best Laid Plans". In 1966, Sid James was in "George & Alfred
Black present 'Spring Wedding'". He was followed by
Dick Emery in 1967 ("Oh! You are Awful"). The popular comedy "The Mating
Game" was performed in 1969 and 1971. "No Sex Please We're British" was

Dorset and East Devon Coast World Heritage Site It is the only natural World Heritage site in Britain and ranks alongside the Great Barrier Reef and the Grand Canyon. This England's first natural World Heritage Site - it is known as The Jurassic Coast. It covers 95 miles of truly stunning coastline from East Devon to Dorset, with rocks recording 185 million years of the Earth's history. World Heritage Sites are places of ‘outstanding universal value' selected by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation). |
Old Harry Rocks Dorset is in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with a fantastic variety of sandy beaches, towering cliffs and unspoilt countryside. Old Harry Rocks are chalk stacks located directly east of Studland and to the north of Swanage in Dorset. Nearby and to the north are the larger towns of Poole and Bournemouth. The rocks are part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site of which they form the eastern end. It is also believed that the rocks were once connected to The Needles on the Isle of Wight. Boat trip excursions are available from Bournemouth pier in the summertime. |
